If you are interested and would like to know more about the Yūgen project, visit the post on my blog ( https://www.artstation.com/blogs/cesarsakon/v3pKO/y-gen-my-life-in-japan ) where I explain the inspirations and motivations, as well as check out the other parts of the project in my portfolio.
For the development of the houses, my main reference was the village of Omori-cho in Oda City. This village has maintained a traditional Japanese aesthetic and is located near Iwami Ginzan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The use of wood and dark roofs are strong characteristics of Japanese houses, as well as the panels on the facades. I used my knowledge as an architect to develop various modules of the houses, which I later combined to generate diversity in the project.
I did this project entirely without using any external assets like Quixel Bridge and Megascans. The PBR materials were created 100% procedurally in Substance 3D Designer. Some foliages were created using photos I took of leaves and processed the outputs in Substance 3D Designer. All models were made in Blender, and the environment was assembled and rendered in Unreal Engine 5.3.
I hope you enjoy it and Feel free to comment.
