If you are interested and would like to know more about the Yūgen project, visit the post on my blog ( https://www.artstation.com/blogs/cesarsakon/v3pKO/y-gen-my-life-in-japan ) where I explain the inspirations and motivations, as well as check out the other parts of the project in my portfolio.
Whenever I model something in 3D, I create sketches, and for the development of the environment, I made various drafts throughout the project's progress. I utilized my knowledge as an architect and urban planner to enrich the environment and create it in a more realistic manner.
At the beginning of the project, I developed several PBR materials that I felt were essential. Japan has a cleaner and organized aesthetic, which influenced me in creating the materials.
Collecting reference photos is a daily routine for every material artist. Wherever I go, I always end up taking some reference photos. To organize these references, I use Pureref.
I did this project entirely without using any external assets like Quixel Bridge and Megascans. The PBR materials were created 100% procedurally in Substance 3D Designer. Some foliages were created using photos I took of leaves and processed the outputs in Substance 3D Designer. All models were made in Blender, and the environment was assembled and rendered in Unreal Engine 5.3.
I hope you enjoy it and Feel free to comment.
